The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara Chakra

Post is written by Dr.Manisha from Spiritual Konnect : http://www.spiritualkonnect.org

It is the last major chakra of our body. Crown Chakra, also known as Sahasrara Chakra is located at the top of the head. To be specific, visualize it at the soft part on a baby’s head.

As the name suggests, the Crown Chakra resides at the crown of our body, and balances the physical as well as spiritual activities, awareness, oneness with self and the universe, and is a gateway for higher consciousness. This Chakra is the only Chakra that faces up, that means, the Crown Chakra is the only Chakra in our body that opens up to the higher consciousness, the divine energy, the universal consciousness. This is the connection between the physical and other realms. It also brings us closer to the divine awareness, eternal knowledge and provides absolute peace within and around us.

Now visualize the body parts that are a part of this region. This Chakra affects the upper skull, Pituitary, Pineal Gland, Muscular system, skeletal system, Nervous System, circulatory system, lymphatic system, right brain, cerebral cortex, right side of our face and right eye, skin and hair. Therefore, if this Chakra is not balanced, it may manifest in the illnesses of Eyes, nose, ear, sinuses, Cerebellum, illnesses of skin such as eczema, rashes, warts, bacterial infections, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, dizziness, vertigo, frequent migraines, bone cancer, hypersensitivity to light, sound and pollutants, chronic fatigue etc.

It may cause Anxiety disorder, Depression, alienation, confusion etc. Psychologically, this Chakra helps one have a clear vision and perception about one’s own self, psychic intuitions, Self-realization, self-awareness, awareness of the universe at a larger scale, parity with everyone, spirituality; and emotionally, it enhances one’s wisdom and bliss. The color of this chakra is Violet.

An underactive Crown Chakra makes one confused, obsessed with thinking, depressed, clogs mind, frustrated, comparison with others, feeling low on self-esteem. You make unwise decisions. With an overactive Crown Chakra one may get overly indulged in the spiritual practices, to an extent that he or she may neglect the physical bodily needs. The person may feel alienated, feels that he or she doesn’t belong to this plane, overly intelligent, feels disconnected from this world, disconnected from the reality of this physical world. To balance this Chakra you may consider doing the following:
  • Imagine a violet or pure white beam of light, entering your body at the Crown Chakra.
  •
  • Imagine the beam converting into a spinning wheel. At first, imagine the wheel spinning anticlockwise. This will deplete negative energy, if any; and then spin the wheel clockwise. This will absorb positive energy from the universe.
  •
  • Make observing silence a habit.
  • You must do meditation, guided meditations, visualization to balance this Chakra.
  • Increase your power of being aware of your surroundings.
  • Depending upon the energy of your Crown Chakra, you may reduce or enhance the use of color Violet/White on your body and in surroundings.

The Third Eye Chakra

Post is written by Dr.Manisha from Spiritual Konnect : http://www.spiritualkonnect.org

Third Eye Chakra, also known as the Brow Chakra, or Ajna Chakra is located at the center of the eyebrows, exactly at the place where Indian women wear Bindi on forehead.

As the name suggests, the Third Eye Chakra holds the command of our physical as well as spiritual activities. It is said that this Chakra is the point where duality ends, and we become one with our physical and spiritual self. It also governs and makes ourselves aware of our psychic thoughts and powers. This Chakra is the point to receive psychic information from outside sources, and have Clairvoyance.

Now visualize the body parts that are a part of this region. This Chakra affects the face, Pituitary, Pineal Gland, Parts of Skull, major parts of brain like—cerebellum, left brain, medulla oblongata, and hypothalamus, Immune System, Nervous System, and forehead. Therefore, if this Chakra is not balanced, it may manifest in the illnesses of Eyes, nose, ear, sinuses, Cerebellum, forebrain, medulla oblongata, and Autonomous nervous system. It may cause Anxiety disorder, Depression, Sleep Disorder, maniac behavior, fear, schizophrenia, paranoia, mental equilibrium etc. Psychologically, this Chakra helps one have a clear vision and perception about one’s own self, psychic intuitions, Self-realization; and emotionally, it enhances one’s imagination. The color of this chakra is INDIGO BLUE.

An underactive Third Eye Chakra makes one unfaithful, lack focus, lack purpose, extreme attachment to physical possessions, relationships, issues, and no connection with the Universal source, self doubt, lethargy, no inclination to learn new things, over-analytical, overindulgent, oversensitive to others, inconsiderate, rigid, closed-minded, and confused. With an overactive Third Eye Chakra one may feel difficulty in concentrating, focusing—as restlessness comes in, impatience, hallucinations, uncaring, cold, tend to belittle others, live in the fantasy world. You may even feel overwhelmed for getting loads of psychic information that you start interfering with the day-to-day life of self and others. To balance this Chakra you may consider doing the following :
  • Imagine a dark blue or Indigo beam of light, entering your body at the Third eye Chakra.
  • Imagine the blue beam converting into a spinning wheel. At first, imagine the wheel spinning anticlockwise. This will deplete negative energy, if any; and then spin the wheel clockwise. This will absorb positive energy from the universe.
  • Make chanting a habit.
  • You must do meditation, guided meditations, visualization to balance this Chakra.
  • Keep a journal handy where you can record your dreams, images that come to your mind during meditations.
  • Increase your power of being aware of your surroundings.
  • Depending upon the energy of your Third Eye Chakra, you may reduce or enhance the use of color Dark Blue/ Indigo on your body and in surroundings.

Throat Chakra

Post is written by Dr.Manisha from Spiritual Konnect : http://www.spiritualkonnect.org

Throat Chakra, also known as Vishuddha Chakra is located at the center of the collar bone, the hollow of the collar bone.

As the name suggests, the Throat Chakra is the center of all our thoughts, emotions, communication, expression, and action. This Chakra is the radar to receive information from outside sources, assimilate and process the information. This Chakra is also responsible to generate Clairs, and also personal magnetism. Sometimes we feel attracted to a few people, or some people simply have magnetism in their personality. This magnetism comes from this Chakra.

Now visualize the body parts that are a part of this region. This Chakra affects Thyroid, parathyroid, vocal chords, jaw, neck, chin, ears, nose, mouth, hypothalamus, shoulders, lymphatic system, menstruation, and respiratory organs. Therefore, if this Chakra is not balanced, it may manifest in the illnesses of Thyroid, tonsillitis, common flu, infections, toothaches, mouth ulcers, speech disorders, swelling on vocal chords, neck, shoulder problems, premenstrual syndrome, hormonal imbalance, mood swings, attention disorders, and trouble sleeping. Psychologically, it has a great impact on our quality of communication, speech, public speaking, self expression, wisdom, and trust, contentment, truthfulness, loyalty, calmness etc. The color of this chakra is BLUE.

An underactive Throat Chakra makes one lack in creativity, prevents one from speaking his or her mind, makes feel shy, intimidated, introverted, unable to express self with clarity of mind, makes a person resist change, slow to respond, and give in to the pressures from others. An overactive Throat Chakra makes you talk excessively, mostly gossiping, and negative talks. You may over-react to small things and situations. This may also make you stubborn, and you may cling to old traditions and disabling beliefs. This Chakra stores the information about Self knowledge that has been passed from past incarnations or previous journeys of our soul. This Chakra is the place for most of the Clairs like—Clairaudience (hearing), Clairsentience (feeling), Clairgustance (taste), Clairscence (smell), Clairempathy (feeling emotions), and Clairtangency (touch) etc.

To balance this Chakra you may consider doing the following :

  • Imagine a blue beam of light, entering your body at the Throat Chakra.
  • Imagine the blue beam converting into a spinning wheel. At first, imagine the wheel spinning anticlockwise. This will deplete negative energy, if any; and then spin the wheel clockwise. This will absorb positive energy from the universe.
  • You may consider listening to Divine Chants, and repeating Chants in mind, or even listening to some religious or spiritual music like choir, bhajans, geet etc.
  • You must do meditation to balance this Chakra.
  • This Chakra works very well with breathing exercises, nature walks, going to a sea shore, listening to the music of waves, the sound of winds etc.
  • Do not suppress your emotions.
  • You may also consider gargling with warm salted water.
  • Depending upon the energy of your Throat Chakra, you may reduce or enhance the use of color Blue on your body and in surroundings.

Heart Chakra or Anahatha Chakra

Post is written by Dr.Manisha from Spiritual Konnect : http://www.spiritualkonnect.org

Heart Chakra, also known as Anahata Chakra is located at the center of the chest.

As the name suggests, the Heart Chakra is the abode of all our emotions, to feel, give, receive, and appreciate love and compassion. We oftentimes say or hear things like—“he or she has a big heart, has a generous heart, is good at heart, is soft-hearted, etc.” All these attributes reside in this Chakra. This Chakra is also responsible to generate seeds of creative thoughts. If these thoughts are strong enough, and are nurtured properly; they can be converted into reality with the help of the energy of this Chakra. This Chakra is also another gateway to your connection with the Universal energy, your Higher Self, your healing powers etc.

Now visualize the body parts that are a part of this region. This Chakra affects heart, lungs, thymus gland, blood circulation, shoulders, arms, hands, muscles, and respiratory system of our body. Therefore, if this Chakra is not balanced, it may manifest in the form of illnesses of heart, lungs, hypertension, muscles spasms, cancer of lungs, breasts, autoimmune diseases, etc. Psychologically, it has a great impact on our will power, self-acceptance, love and compassion for self and others, empathy, kindness, give and take, self-control, relationships, renewal, peace, acquiring knowledge. The color of this chakra is GREEN and also PINK.

An underactive Heart Chakra makes one feel insecure, lonely, jealous, passive, possessive, in self-doubt, feel resentment, need validations from others, have low or no self-worth, lack the attitude of forgive and forget, and let go things in life. You may also have fears of rejection, non-acceptance from others. An overactive Heart Chakra is also equally dangerous. You may suffocate someone of your love, affection and compassion. You will need a constant reminder from others that your love is very important in their lives, and that you love them the most. The loved may feel choked with your overflowing love. This may also bring in self-destructive thoughts, arrogance, a feeling of being too sentimental, mood swings, and codependency. This Chakra stores the information about our spiritual self, about love-hate relationships of the present and the past, our emotional attachments. The Heart Chakra is the energy center for our psychic development, telepathy etc.

To balance this Chakra you may consider doing the following :
  • Imagine a fresh Green beam of light, entering your body at the Heart Chakra. You may also imagine a Pink Beam in case you want to enhance the feeling of love and compassion.
  • Imagine the green or pink beam converting into a spinning wheel. At first, imagine the wheel spinning anticlockwise. This will deplete negative energy, if any; and then spin the wheel clockwise. This will absorb positive energy from the universe.
  • You may consider listening to soft, gentle, romantic music, may sing also along with the songs, or hum to the tune. You may also listen to the sounds of Nature like chirping of birds, waves, sea breeze.
  • You must do meditation to balance this Chakra.
  • This Chakra works very well with breathing exercises, nature walks, going to a sea shore, etc.
  • You may also write some creative stuff, or read something that touches your heart, watch a touching movie, or just recall all emotional moments from your life that would bring tears in your eyes (good as well as not-so-good).
  • If you feel like crying, consider crying and not suppressing it. The suppressed emotions block our heart chakra. It doesn’t matter if you are a male or a female; you are a human being first, and thus are bound to feel emotional at times. Do not worry about anyone, go in a place that is comfortable, cry, release negative emotions and get back to work !
  • Depending upon the energy of your Heart Chakra, you may reduce or enhance the use of color Green or Pink on your body and in surroundings.

Heart Chakra or Anahata Chakra is the most important body chakra as far as human beings are concerned. Because, we being humans are bound to feel emotional, get affected by emotions, give out different emotions, and also receive emotions and emotional outbursts from people around us.

All this creates a lot of emotional energy around us. This energy in turn affects our very being in a positive or a negative way.

I would like to request all of you to please meditate on this chakra, and try to have a feel of its health. If this chakra is not in harmony, it will affect the overall health of all the chakras. How? Heart Chakra falls exactly in the middle of the Chakras--three chakras are below--solar plexus, sacral and root chakra; and three above-- the throat chakra, third eye and the crown chakra. So, the heart Chakra makes the middle point of this imaginary pipe of chakras. If it is blocked (which is the case with almost everyone of us, at least initially), it will not let the energy flow freely in our body.
Only one blocked chakra may block or affect the health and functioning of other chakras. And, I must tell you that the Heart Chakra plays a very important role in our life as this chakra is the place of exchange of the most of the energy.

All your thoughts, intent, action, and emotions are generated here, right here in this chakra. If you bury your emotions, they create a graveyard of negative emotions that stay permanently in your heart chakra blocking positive energy from coming in and negative energy from going out. The hurts you receive from others, the responsibilities that you shirk, your frustrations, unfulfilled expectations, desires, dreams; all add into emotional clutter. And this emotional clutter makes you feel even more insure, depressed, moody, angry, arrogant, and what not.

Please pay attention to your thoughts. Do not keep emotions buried, resolve issues that trouble you. And in most of the cases, you would find the solution from within.

Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura Chakra

Post is written by Dr.Manisha from Spiritual Konnect : http://www.spiritualkonnect.org

Solar plexus, also known as Manipura Chakra is located at the diaphragm; that is below heart, below the breast bone.
This Chakra is responsible for the feeling of Self esteem, thoughts, action, and realization of your life’s dream. This Chakra is also another gateway to your psychic abilities. Solar plexus is the place where we sow the seeds of our individuality, inner strength and wisdom, material and spiritual power. Our thoughts, opinions and judgments of what we do, originate right here in this Chakra.
Now visualize the body parts that are a part of this region. This Chakra affects Liver, gall bladder, pancreas, diaphragm, small intestine, stomach, spleen, adrenals, upper abdomen, middle back, spine, and blood. Therefore, if this Chakra is not balanced, it may manifest in the form of illnesses like digestive disorders, fluctuation in sugar level, disorders of lumber region of spine, middle backache, gall stones, illnesses related with liver, pancreas, stomach etc.
Psychologically, it has a great impact on our will power, intellect, wit, wisdom, inner knowledge, knowledge of the universe, Self Awareness, Self-esteem, mind control, Optimism. The color of this chakra is YELLOW.
An underactive Solar Plexus Chakra makes one feel insecure, low on self-esteem, self confidence, and self control, you may feel victimized, may feel as if you are under the control of others, isolated, fearful, depressed. An overactive Solar Plexus Chakra will bring in over controlling nature, hunger for power over others, arrogance, excessive anger, violence, destructive thoughts for self and others. An individual whose Solar Plexus is overactive is generally workaholic, perfectionist, and always complains about bad relationships—personal as well as professional. He or she likes to dominate others. This Chakra stores the information about our spiritual self, about our position in the vast universe, about self- awareness. Solar Plexus also stores the information of the marks left on our consciousness from the past, traumas, emotional baggage etc.

To balance this Chakra you may consider doing the following :

•Imagine a fresh, bright yellow beam of light, entering your body at the Solar Plexus.

•Imagine the yellow beam converting into a spinning wheel. At first, imagine the wheel spinning anticlockwise. This will deplete negative energy, if any; and then spin the wheel clockwise. This will absorb positive energy from the universe.

•You may consider listening to soft, gentle, soothing music, may sing also along with the songs, or hum to the tune.

•You must do meditation to balance this Chakra.

•This Chakra works very well with water sports, swimming, and water yoga.

•Depending upon the energy of your Solar Plexus Chakra, you may reduce or enhance the use of color Yellow on your body and in surroundings.

Sacral Chakra or Swadishtana Chakra

Post is written by Dr.Manisha from Spiritual Konnect : http://www.spiritualkonnect.org

Sacral Chakra
Sacral Chakra, also known as Swadhishtana Chakra is located in the sacral region, hence the name Sacral Chakra. To locate it on your body, imagine a rotating wheel about two inches below naval.
This Chakra is responsible for the feeling of Self worth. You get the “gut feeling” right here in this Chakra. Sacral Chakra is our radar for the psychic phenomena like intuition and the secret place where we harbor our desires, sexuality, and the “need for respect” from others.

Now visualize the body parts that are a part of this region. This Chakra affects ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus in females, adrenals, testicles in males, hips, pelvis, prostrate, small intestine, urinary bladder, spleen, and lower abdomen. This Chakra is also known to affect the circulatory and lymphatic system, and also Urino-genital system. Therefore, if this Chakra is not balanced, it may manifest in the form of illnesses of the above written body parts.

Psychologically, it has a great impact on our emotions, feelings, intimate relationships, expression and acceptance of sexuality, psychic instincts, procreation, and social security. This Chakra mainly helps an individual to feel recognized and satisfied in all spheres of his or her life.

Emotionally it has a direct impact on one’s desires. The color of this chakra is ORANGE.
An underactive Sacral Chakra makes one feel insecure, possessive, envious, angry, arrogant, withdrawn, victimized, guilty, confused, and more materialistic; while an overactive Sacral Chakra may bring in emotional instability, hyperactivity, hypersensitivity, restlessness, and will make an individual lustful, selfish, controlling others, judgmental, overly attached to things, thoughts and opinions of self and others.
This Chakra stores the information about our childhood—pleasures, traumas, emotional well being—expression or repression of our feelings, emotions during childhood.

To balance this Chakra you may consider doing the following :
  • Imagine a vibrant orange beam of light, entering your body at the Sacral Chakra from all the sides of your body.

  • Same as in Root Chakra, imagine the orange beam converting into a spinning wheel. At first, imagine the wheel spinning anticlockwise. This will deplete negative energy, if any; and then spin the wheel clockwise. This will absorb positive energy from the universe.

  • You may consider doing some creative activities like music, dance, an art form, belly dancing, listening to sensual songs etc. to balance this Chakra.

  • You should consider doing meditation.

  •  Depending upon the energy of your Sacral Chakra, you may reduce or enhance the use of color Orange on your body and in surroundings.

Root Chakra or Muladhara Chakra

Post is written by Dr.Manisha from Spiritual Konnect : http://www.spiritualkonnect.org

Root Chakra
Root Chakra, also known as Muladhara Chakra is located at the base of the spine. To locate it on your body, imagine yourself sitting cross-legged on the floor. The place exactly between the sex organs and the anal opening is the place of the Root Chakra.

As the name suggests, this Chakra is responsible for the feeling of grounding yourself. This is the only Chakra that is in direct contact with the earth, and hence is responsible for the energy flow from our body toward the earth and vice versa.

Now visualize the body parts that come in this region. This Chakra affects kidneys, adrenals, sex organs, hips, pelvis, large intestine, urinary bladder, legs, male gonads and tail bone (coccyx). This Chakra is also known to affect the blood circulation, nails, teeth and bones. Therefore, if this Chakra is not balanced, it may manifest in the form of illnesses of anus, rectum, sexual disorders in males, constipation, fluctuation in body temperature, anemia etc.

Psychologically, it has a great impact on our behavior, impulsiveness, grounding, the feeling of belongingness, sexuality, vitality, survival instinct, and security. This Chakra mainly helps an individual to feel satisfied in his or her material world.

Emotionally it provides the passion for anything and everything. The color of this chakra is RED.
An underactive Root Chakra makes one feel insecure, fearsome, anxious, impulsive, and lonely; while an overactive Root Chakra may bring in falsehood in behavior, ego, lust, and excessive hunger for money.
This Chakra stores the information about our past beliefs, biases, physical pleasures and pains, and importantly basic instincts.

To balance this Chakra you may consider doing the following :
  • Imagine a vibrant red beam of light, entering your body at the Root Chakra.
  • Imagine the beam converting into a spinning wheel. At first, imagine the wheel spinning anticlockwise. This will deplete negative energy, if any; and then spin the wheel clockwise. This will absorb positive energy from the universe.
  • You may listen to some tribal music, drum beats, or any soft music to balance this Chakra.
  • You may even consider doing some physical exercises like yoga, Mantra meditation, walking, jogging etc.
  • Depending upon the energy of your Root Chakra, you may reduce or enhance the use of color RED on your body and in surroundings.
I sincerely wish that you all have a balanced Root Chakra so as to have satisfaction in your material life. Once this Chakra is balanced, you may go up toward the Sacral Chakra.

Introduction to Body Chakras

Whenever I have tried to read and learn about the Significance of our Samskaras/rituals/routines, always there  has been a mention of empowering and balancing  body chakras. So, to the benefit of all seekers regarding this information on Chakras, I thought of sharing the articles written by Smt.Dr.Manisha who holds a PHD in Metaphysical Science and is a Spritual Counsellor in Mumbai. Her articles can be read on http://www.spiritualkonnect.org/. Articles shall be in parts covering all 7 Chakras.

Picture is from Wikipedia
The Body Chakras

They are basically energy vortices along the spinal cord; starting at the last vertebra—coccyx and ending at the crown (head). When we talk of Chakras, we generally talk of the seven major Chakras. These are supposed to have major impact on our well being—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Chakras are wheels of energy that exchange our inner energy with the universal energies. These universal energies are comprised of the energies of nature, celestial energies, our own thoughts, emotions, traumas, and the energies from surroundings.

It is said that for every physical part of our body there is a corresponding Chakra. There are approximately 80,000 Chakras in our body. That means every cell of our body is connected to a Chakra—major, minor, or even at lower levels some way or another. As we learn about Chakras, you’ll notice that every major Chakra corresponds to an endocrine gland of our body.

Imagine these Chakras as a pipe running along the length of your body. When you visualize Chakras; you should be able to see a clear pipe, without any blockages. Such passage will only allow a proper and healthy flow of energy in our body. If there is a blockage, the flow of energy will be disrupted and the blocked energy will manifest in some form of imbalance—physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.

Therefore, one must be very careful about his or her thoughts, emotions, resolving issues, getting over a trauma, and interaction with his or her inner-self, universe, and surroundings.

Chakras- Our Energy Centers
Chakras are energy centers in our body, and hence are vulnerable to attracting energies that may or may not be conducive to one’s growth. What do I mean by this sentence? We have learned some time back that thoughts are energy, and there are other vibrations also in the universe around us. Every thought generates energy in the form of thoughts that follow the first thought, or in some kind of an action. If the very first thought was positive, it is likely to generate other positive thoughts and actions; but if it was not, negative thoughts and actions are generated. We all know that in metaphysics, “Like attracts like.” So if there are positive thoughts, they will attract positive energy; and vice versa.

Energy generated from every thought, every action will end up either opening a Chakra or blocking it. If it is open it will attract more positive energy; and if it is blocked, it goes on attracting negative energy. This negative energy blocks the Chakra further and manifests in the form of various illnesses.

Apart from our own thoughts, Chakras are affected by the thought vibrations of people around us and surroundings. Again, positive vibrations will attract positive vibes, and negative ones—negative vibes. So be cautious of what to think, talk, do, and also watch your company.

Chakras are also affected by feelings—happiness, love, compassion, selflessness, satisfaction, meaning, give and take, ability to forgive and forget and any other positive feeling; and also by negative feelings like—fear, guilt, anxiety, revenge, stress, and any other emotional traumas. Colors too play an important role in Chakras’ health as every Chakra vibrates on a particular frequency. Excessive use of any particular color may influence the health of a Chakra.
